Each year, 600 000 metric tons of fishnets end up in the world’s oceans, trapping dolphins, seals, and smaller fish. These abandoned nets drift with the strong currents and scrape the bottom surface, destroying the coral reefs that are essential to the survival and health of both the world’s oceans and human beings.
The fabric used to make this swimsuit is made of 78 % recycled polyamide, which has been manufactured by using mostly residual fishnets, old carpets, and production waste – making this sustainable swimsuit a part of the process that helps clean up the world’s oceans.
The swimsuit is GRS certified which ensures that it consists of recycled materials made from, for example, PET soda bottles, discarded fishnets and used clothes. Since we are working with products that are mainly used by children, the control of chemical use is of the utmost importance to us. GRS is the strictest certification for recycled material on the market today and includes rigid controls of especially chemical use and tracking, but also working conditions.
